The SURGE Pro Surf SUP Paddle is for paddlers who want to improve their surfing and stay in the water longer. The Surge SUP paddle offers more power, lighter weight, and increased maneuverability. Throughout the design process, all unnecessary weight was removed making this the lightest SUP surf paddle available. For example; a Surge Pro 82 cut to 70″ (178cm) is only 13.6 ounces (385 grams), at least 50 grams lighter than any other surf paddle. This reduced weight translates into an improved paddling experience while being easier on your body. Thanks to the design and optimized construction the Surge is also one of the strongest SUP paddles you will find and enjoys a near zero failure rate even in extreme Hawaiian surf.
The Surge SUP surfing paddle offers you the quick bursts of speed needed for catching more waves. We added a little more power to the blade to cope with highly oxygenated white water which offers less resistance. On entry, the Surge blade is designed to correct poor alignment often associated with fatigue and injury. The proprietary Scooped Dihedral shaping holds the water securely through the power phase of the stroke generating a smooth and controlled power delivery. Lateral blade movement is eliminated and the toe shaping provides an efficient release. The extension of the tapered scoop towards the toe ensures that the paddle remains stable and delivers power even if you fail to get the full blade in the water, which is common if you are scrambling to make it over the set or paddling on a small and unstable SUP surfboard. The shallow 8° blade angle promotes an aggressive paddle stroke and slightly shorter overall paddle lengths. We added a slight ridge along the front of the blade, this increases paddle stiffness both vertically and laterally while adding increased strength. We smoothed out all edges to increase safety while surfing, increase strength and reduce board damage.
The Surge SUP surf paddle is available in four blade sizes and a range of shaft options to suit all SUP surfers no matter their size, paddling location or style. The LARGE 87 sq in (568cm²) is designed for larger riders over 80kg. The MEDIUM 82 in² (519 cm²) is suited for riders 64 – 85kg. The SMALL 77 in² (485 cm²) is recommended for riders 50 – 70kg. New for 2018 is the X-Small 72 in² (446cm²) designed for smaller riders and grom paddlers in the 35-60kg range. Note that due to the increased efficiency and power experienced with the Surge paddlers can use smaller sup paddles than before and benefit from a higher cadence stroke. The Surge has become popular with foilers thanks to its on-demand grunt when you need to power up the foil and incredible lightweight during glides. The RDS is preferred by foilers because it is comfortable and easy to hold while navigating the bumps.
The Large (87) blade comes fitted with our Standard Diameter Shaft (SDS) ideal for bigger riders on larger boards, the Medium(82) and Small(77) and the X-Small(72) feature our Reduced Diameter Shaft (RDS) which is optimal for smaller riders and shorter boards. The Surge paddle is available with either a Medium or Flex shaft. Refer to the table below to find the ideal shaft for you based on your weight and needs.
