On November 25, 2011, Bob Long opened West Coast Paddle Sports, raising its large roll-up door on Morena Blvd and launching what would become San Diego’s premier destination for stand-up paddling. As the first surf shop in San Diego to offer boards and paddles, we helped introduce and shape the local SUP community from the very beginning.

What started with a small rental fleet and a growing group of friends quickly evolved into a trusted source for “all things SUP.” We focused on education, community, and quality equipment—supporting paddlers at every level as the sport gained momentum across San Diego.

Through long-standing relationships with leading paddle manufacturers, we became deeply involved with San Diego’s outrigger canoe community. We proudly stocked specialized outrigger paddles and gear, serving everyone from first-time paddlers to elite competitors.

In early 2018, Bob Long of West Coast Paddle Sports and Jeton Prince, owner of The SUP Connection, joined forces to elevate the paddling experience even further. The partnership brought expanded retail space, a refined showroom, and over 600 square feet dedicated to service and support. With the addition of waterfront access at Historic Liberty Station on San Diego Bay, we expanded our offerings to include rentals, lessons, group tours, and even SUP experiences for canine companions through The SUP Pup California program.

West Coast Paddle Sports became more than a shop—it became a hub for the paddling community. We offered professional paddle and deck pad customization, efficient packing and shipping services, and space for post-paddle gatherings, film nights, and guest speakers. In 2019, Bob Long retired, and Jeton Prince assumed ownership, continuing the shop’s legacy while driving it forward.

In 2024, the next chapter began. With the Morena location no longer available for a long-term lease, the decision was made to go bigger, bolder, and more visible. An exciting opportunity led us to the heart of Point Loma at our current home: 1105 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, CA 92106.

The new space underwent a full floor-to-ceiling transformation. Designed with growth in mind, the shop now features expanded retail space, extensive board storage, and a dedicated repair facility capable of accommodating everything from SUPs to OC2s. Countless late nights and hard work went into creating San Diego’s new headquarters for “All Things SUP.”

Thanks to the incredible support of the HanoHano Outrigger Club, the entire shop and inventory were moved in a single day. Just one week later, in June 2024, we proudly reopened in Point Loma.

Today, West Coast Paddle Sports continues to set the standard for paddleboarding and outrigger equipment in San Diego. Backed by a passionate team of water sports enthusiasts, we carry the industry’s top brands and consistently bring in the latest gear and innovations.
